Emissions of state valuable postal matter in April

On April 9, a postage stamp dedicated to the achievements of the Russian space science, timed to coincide with the Space Week in the Russian Federation, which commemorates the 65th Anniversary of the first human spaceflight will go into postal circulation

The Cosmonautics Day is celebrated annually on April 12. In 1962, on the first Anniversary of the first human spaceflight, a government decree was signed establishing a new holiday in the USSR: the Cosmonautics Day. Six years later, the event gained international status, and the Aviation and Cosmonautics Day was established.

On April 8 of 2011, the 65th session of the UN General Assembly gave an alternative name to the holiday: the International Human Space Flight Day.

On December 29 of 2025, President of the Russian Federation V. Putin signed Decree No. 995 On Holding Space Week in the Russian Federation that established a new annual nationwide event aimed at promoting the achievements of domestic space exploration and enhanced the prestige of professions related to space activities.

In 2026, the Space Week will mark the 65th Anniversary of the first human spaceflight, carried out by Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin.

The postage stamp provides a symbolic image of a cosmonaut gazing at a star cluster through the porthole of a spaceship.

In addition to the issue of the postage stamp, JSC Marka will produce First Day Covers and special cancels for Moscow, Volgograd, Baikonur, Yevpatoria in the Republic of Crimea, Zvyozdny and Korolyov in the Moscow Region, Engels in the Saratov Region, and Chelyabinsk.

On April 10, three postage stamps will go into postal circulation in the Characters from Russian Animated Films series

Soyuzmultfilm is an animated film studio. It was founded in Moscow on June 10 of 1936. Over the course of its history, the studio has produced more than 1,500 animated films in a wide variety of genres and artistic styles; many of the films have become part of the “golden fund” of world animation classics and have received more than 400 prizes and awards at international festivals.

The animated series Prostokvashino has been in production since 2018 and it is a sequel to the classic series of animated films based on the works by writer Eduard Uspensky. The story follows the hilarious adventures of the very serious and self-sufficient boy Uncle Fyodor, his younger sister Vera Pavlovna - who is never apart from her quirky little animal Tama-Tama - and their furry friends: the housewifely cat Matroskin and the simple-minded dog Sharik.

The animated series Umka (2022–2025) is a continuation of the classic story, in which the now-grown boy named Taike tells children the legends of the Arctic. Umka, his mother the bear, and his friends - the she-wolf Ilma, the seal Kora, and the seagull Pychik - explore the North, learn to be friends, and protect nature.

The animated series Champions (2024–2025) is a project inspired by the classic cartoon Puck, Puck!. The story follows the rivalry between the Blue Pennants and the Red Meteors teams in various sports.

The postage stamps feature characters from animated films Prostokvashino, Umka, and Champions produced by JSC Soyuzmultfilm Film Studio.

On April 10, a postcard with a commemorative stamp dedicated to the 50th Anniversary of the launch of the Ekran satellite will go into postal circulation in the Space Exploration series

On October 26 of 1976, a Proton-K launch vehicle carrying a new television broadcasting satellite Ekran was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome.

“Ekran” was the name given to a series of Soviet artificial Earth satellites and a satellite television system designed to retransmit color and black-and-white programs from the central television network to a network of multi-access receivers located in settlements across Siberia and the Far North.

The Ekran satellite television system consisted of the following elements: a ground-based transmission complex with a transmitter operating in the centimeter-wave band (located in the Moscow Region); the Ekran satellite; a network of simple receiving devices, which, in combination with cable distribution systems or low-power TV repeaters, provided transmission of television programs to subscribers' TV sets in the meter-wave band.

The orbital vehicles of this series were designed at Joint-Stock Company Academician M. Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems (a subsidiary of the Roscosmos State Corporation).

The commemorative stamp provides a symbolic image of a launch vehicle being launched into space; the main image features the Ekran satellite in space against the backdrop of the Earth, along with symbolic images of a satellite antenna and a television antenna.

In addition to the issue of the postcard with a commemorative stamp, JSC Marka will produce special cancels for Moscow, Baikonur, Volgograd and Yevpatoria of the Republic of Crimea.

On April 14, an envelope with a commemorative stamp dedicated to the 125th Birth Anniversary of Heroes of the Soviet Union brothers Dmitry and Yakov Lukanins will go into postal circulation in the On the 85th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945 series

Dmitry and Yakov Lukanins were twin brothers, veterans of the Great Patriotic War, and Heroes of the Soviet Union.

They were born on April 14 of 1901 in the village of Lyubimovo (presently Lukanino in the Yukhnovsky District of the Kaluga Region.

Dmitry Lukanin (1901–1961) was a Senior Sergeant, a Hero of the Soviet Union. On October 15 of 1943, Dmitry Lukanin’s crew with his brother Yakov as a gunner, took part in repelling a German counterattack on the outskirts of the village of Kaluzhino in the Verkhnedneprovsky District.

By the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 24, 1944, for the “exemplary fulfillment of combat missions assigned by the command on the front lines of the struggle against the German invaders, and for the courage and heroism displayed upon that,” Guard Junior Sergeant Dmitry Lukanin was granted the highest title of Hero of the Soviet Union, along with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star Medal. He was also awarded the Order of the Red Star and different medals.

Yakov Lukanin (1901–1951) was a Sergeant, a Hero of the Soviet Union. In September of 1942, he was drafted into service and sent to the front. He served as a gunner on an ML-20 howitzer-gun in the 197th Guards Artillery Regiment of the 92nd Guards Rifle Division, 37th Army of the Steppe Front.

By the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 24, 1944, for the “exemplary fulfillment of combat missions assigned by the command on the front lines of the struggle against the German invaders, and for the courage and heroism displayed upon that,” Guard Red Army Soldier Dmitry Lukanin was granted the highest title of Hero of the Soviet Union, along with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star Medal.

The commemorative stamp provides an emblem of celebration of the 85th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945; the main image features portraits of brothers Lukanins against the background of a battle scene and the ML-20 howitzer-gun.

On April 18, a postage stamp dedicated to politician V. Zhirinovsky will go into postal circulation

Vladimir Zhirinovsky (1946–2022) was the founder and the Chairman in 1992–2022 of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR). He was a member of the LDPR faction in the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, a member of the State Council, the Head of the LDPR Supreme Council.

V. Zhirinovsky was born on April 25 of 1946, in Almaty (Kazakhstan). He graduated with honors from the Institute of Oriental Languages (in later years, the Institute of Asian and African Studies) at Moscow State University with a degree in Turkey and the Turkish Language, and from the evening division of the Faculty of Law at Moscow State University with majoring in Jurisprudence. V. Zhirinovsky was a Doctor of Philosophy, an Honored Lawyer of the Russian Federation, a Professor of International Law and a Professor at the Faculty of Sociology of Moscow State University, an Honorary Professor of the Moscow University of Finance and Law, an Honorary Doctor of the Moscow State Linguistic University, a Full Member of the International Academy of Informatization, an Honorary Academician of the Academy of Natural Sciences, an Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences, a Professor at Moscow State Open University. He was the LDPR’s candidate for President of the RSFSR in 1991 and for President of the Russian Federation in the 1996, 2000, 2008, 2012, and 2018 elections. He was the leader of the LDPR faction in the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

On April 26, a postage stamp dedicated to the Anniversary of the liberation of the Kursk Region will go into postal circulation

On August 5, 2024, massive artillery and air strikes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces rained down on the border regions of the Kursk Region, including Sudzha, the Glushkovsky, Korenevsky, and Sudzhansky Districts. The following day, on August 6, a full-scale invasion began: Ukrainian troops, supported by tanks and heavy equipment, crossed the border, seizing approximately 1,268 km² of the Region’s territory in a short period, including 59 villages and the large city of Sudzha. By mid-August, the Ukrainian Armed Forces had consolidated their positions in the captured territories. On August 13, Colonel General Alexei Dyumin, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, was appointed coordinator of the counterterrorism operation in the Kursk Region.

Since September of 2024, Russian forces launched a counteroffensive, methodically regaining control of the occupied territories. By mid-September, during the counteroffensive, Russian troops had liberated more than 10 settlements in the Region. On April 26 of 2025, the operation to liberate the Kursk Region was completed, and President of the Russian Federation V. Putin announced the complete defeat of the enemy.

The postage stamp provides a symbolic image of Russian servicemen who participated in Operation Potok (Flush).

On April 29, four postage stamps dedicated to constellations will go into postal circulation

A constellation is a conditional section of the starry sky with defined boundaries that contains a distinctive group of stars. The current system of the International Astronomical Union comprises 88 official constellations, of which 12 are zodiacal and 76 are non-zodiacal ones.

Ursa Major is the most well known and one of the largest constellations in the Northern Hemisphere. It is a circumpolar constellation and is observable above the horizon at any time.

Ursa Minor is also a circumpolar constellation visible above the horizon at all times. It resembles the Ursa Major in configuration, but is smaller in size and consists of only 25 stars.

Boötes is a fairly large constellation in the Northern Hemisphere, described in the catalog of the 2nd-century astronomer Claudius Ptolemy, The Almagest.

The Canes Venatici constellation is located in the Northern Hemisphere and amounts to 50 stars that are visible to the naked eye.

The postage stamps feature constellations of the Northern Hemisphere: Ursa Major, Ursa Minor, Canes Venatici, and Boötes.
