Emissions of state valuable postal matter in June

On June 7, three postage stamps dedicated to Pereslavl-Zalessky, Rostov Veliky and Suzdal will go into postal circulation in the Cities of the Golden Ring of Russia series

The Golden Ring of Russia is a tourist route that unites ancient cities of North-Eastern Russia: Vladimir, Ivanovo, Kostroma, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Rostov Veliky, Sergiev Posad, Suzdal, Uglich, and Yaroslavl. All of them have retained unique monuments of architecture, history and culture.

Pereslavl-Zalessky was founded by Prince Yuri Dolgoruky in 1152. The outstanding statesman and military leader Alexander Nevsky was born, lived and reigned here. In the early 14th century, the Duchy of Pereslavl became a part of the Grand Duchy of Moscow. Late in the 17th century, on the shore of Lake Pleshcheyevo near Pereslavl, young Tsar Peter I started construction of the so-called toy flotilla, which laid the foundation of the Russian military fleet.

Today, Pereslavl-Zalessky is the administrative center of the Pereslavl District, a tourist city of the Yaroslavl Region. It hosts a lot of ancient monasteries and churches: the Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Savior, the Trinity St. Daniel Monastery, the Goritsky Assumption Monastery, and a lot of unique museums revealing the history of the city. The calling card of the ancient Russian city is the National Park Pleshcheevo Lake.

The postage stamp provides images of the Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Savior, the Fortuna boat of Peter the Great (objects of the Pereslavl Museum-Reserve), the monument to Alexander Nevsky (sculptor S. Orlov), the building of the LIT plant, the Church of the Forty Martyrs, the Chapel of Feodor Stratilat (the territory of the National Park Pleshcheevo Lake).

Rostov Veliky has been officially chronicled since 862. From the 10th century, it was one of the capitals of the Rostov-Suzdal Land, then it was a part of the Vladimir-Suzdal Principality. Early in the 13th century, it became an independent center: stone building activity was under way there, extensive libraries were created.

Today, Rostov Veliky is the administrative center of the Rostov District, Yaroslavl Region, and a tourist city. In 1995, the Rostov Kremlin Museum-Reserve was entered on the State Code of Especially Valuable Objects of Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of the Russian Federation.

The territory of the city is home to more than 300 cultural monuments, one third of which are monuments of federal significance. The ancient city is famous not only for its stunning temples, but also for its ancient crafts, particularly enamel miniature.

The postage stamp provides images of the ensemble of the Rostov Kremlin with a bell tower, a memorial cross (sculptor N. Mukhin), a ladle with elements of the Rostov enamel work, and shopping malls with the Church of Our Savior on the Marketplace.

Suzdal was first mentioned in chronicles in 1024. In the 13th century, it became the center of the Vladimir-Suzdal Principality and became famous for its crafts: currying, jewelry manufacturing and a lot more. In the 14th century, the city was captured by Tver, but soon after it became part of the Grand Duchy of Moscow and became one of the centers of Orthodox Christianity.

Today, Suzdal is a city reserve in the Vladimir Region. In 1992, its magnificent architectural monuments were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The most famous sights are the ensembles of the Kremlin, the Intercession Convent, the Monastery of Deposition of the Robe and the Monastery of the Savior and St. Euthimius.

The postage stamp provides images of the Resurrection Church and trade malls, the St. Nickolas Church from the village of Glotovo (Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve), the Church of Elijah the Prophet, the obelisk of the Vladimir outpost at the entrance to the city, and a fire watchtower.

The year of 1908 was marked by the institution of the All-Russian Union of Tennis Clubs, the governing body of tennis until 1918. The members of most of the clubs were aristocrats, officers, and big merchants.

In 1956, the Tennis Federation of the USSR was founded, which was later transformed into the All-Russian Tennis Federation. The popularization and promotion of the sport in Russia after the collapse of the USSR was favored by the first President, B. Yeltsin.

The first Russian public professional theatre was founded in 1750 in Yaroslavl by outstanding actor and director Fyodor Volkov. He transformed a building that could accommodate up to 1,000 spectators for performances.

In 1819, provincial architect P.Y. Pankov designed and built with own funds the first wooden theater building in the classical style in place of a demolished earthen rampart. Since then, all new theater buildings were constructed on the site of P. Pankov's first theater.

In 1907, the dilapidated building was dismantled. A new theater building, designed by architect N. Spirin, was under construction between 1909 and 1911 and was officially opened in September of 1911. In 1918, the theater building was nationalized.

During the Great Patriotic War, the theater continued to operate, even though some of its employees had gone to the front. Many artists performed at the frontline in the composition of frontline groups.

On June 11, 1950, for its great achievements in the development of theatrical art and in connection with the 200th Anniversary of its foundation, the theater was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
