The All-Russian Society for Nature Protection (VOOP) is one of the oldest working nature conservation organizations in the world. It was founded in 1924 on the initiative of A. Lunacharsky, N. Krupskaya and M. Pokrovsky as the All-Russian Order of the Red Banner of Labor Society for Nature Protection.
One of the priority tasks of the organization is the protection of plants registered in the Red Book of the Russian Federation.
Plants protected in Russia include such species as Castilleja arctica, Caucasian lily, thin-leaved peony, incised violet, yellow lady's slipper, Iris pseudacorus, golden root, and dolomite bellflower.

The Askania Nova Biosphere Reserve was founded in the late 19th century by hereditary nobleman, scientist-zoologist F. Falz-Fein. This is a unique place where natural and man-made features are in balance; it is the result of many years of hard work, will and creativity of people.
The Reserve territory is home of a fescue-feather grass steppe, an arboretum, where woody plants are grown in an arid waterless environment, and a zoological park, where most of the animals live year-round in free and semi-free conditions.
Perennial dense-grasses and mixed fodder grasses predominate in this protected area; the flora of flowering plants consists of 505 species. The most widely spread species in the fauna are arthropods (1,309 species), besides, more than 1,109 species of insects have been registered with 19 of them being included in the Red Book and protection lists of the Russian Federation. The ornithological fauna is diverse, based on a bustard, a steppe kestrel, a bunting, a ruddy sheld duck, a sheld duck, a Montahu’s harrier and a short-eared owl. There are 22 species of mammals, including a steppe polecat, a badger, a steppe sicista, and a great jerboa.

It is granted to the cities of the Russian Federation, whose residents "made a significant contribution to the achievement of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 by providing uninterrupted production of military and civilian products at industrial enterprises, located in the city, and demonstrated massive labor heroism and selflessness”.

On August 17, a stamp dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the Torpedo Moscow football club will go into postal circulation
The team foundation date is considered August 17 of 1924. On that day, the first official match of the Proletarskaya Kuznitsa team, the club's predecessor, took place. On May 22 of 1936, the team was named Torpedo.
During the Soviet period, Torpedo was a regular participant in the Supreme League of the Union Championships. Torpedo players have amassed an impressive collection of titles and medals. Champions of the USSR in 1960, 1965 and 1976 (autumn). Silver medalists in 1957, 1961 and 1964. Bronze medalists in 1945, 1953, 1968, 1977, 1988 and 1991. Torpedo is a six-time winner of the USSR Cup (1949, 1952, 1960, 1968, 1972, and 1986).

On August 19, a stamp dedicated to the 100th Birth Anniversary of communications scientist Vladimir Matsnev will go into postal circulation
Vladimir Matsnev (1924-2023) was an outstanding communications scientist.
He was born on August 19, 1924, in the village of Ilovai-Rozhdestvenskoye, Khobotovsky District of the Tambov Region. He was a participant of the Great Patriotic War. In 1951, Matsnev graduated with honors from the Moscow Electrotechnical Institute of Communications. Then he worked at the Moscow Main Post Office, at the Central Research Institute of Communications, defended his PhD thesis. In 1961, he was transferred to work in the Main Directorate of Postal Communications of the USSR Ministry of Communications and was appointed a Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of Postal Communications, some time afterwards – the Head of the Main Directorate of Postal Communications.
In 1979, V. Matsnev was appointed the First Deputy Minister of Communications of the RSFSR. The main tasks in his work were the creation and development of the production base, introduction of equipment for rural telephone communications and broadcasting facilities, upgrading of facilities of area communication centers, replenishment of enterprises with mechanisation and transport facilities.
V. Matsnev is the author of numerous scientific publications and the Postal Communications handbook, one of the developers of the Federal Law On Postal Communications, the code of postal services, a set of normative legal acts to ensure the safety of postal items and money. With his participation, six textbooks were prepared and published for higher and secondary specialized educational institutions for training specialists of the communications industry.

On August 23, a postcard with a commemorative stamp dedicated to the 150th Birth Anniversary of Alexander Vishnevsky, a surgeon, will go into postal circulation
Alexander Vishnevsky (1874-1948) was a Russian and Soviet surgeon, the creator of the famous therapeutic ointment; the founder of a family of doctors; a Full member of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences (1946), a Winner of the 2nd class Stalin Prize (1942).
A. Vishnevsky is the author of more than 40 scientific papers. He is the originator of experimental physical investigations and numerous original works on surgery of the biliary tract, the urinary system, the thoracic cavity, neurosurgery, surgery of war injuries and purulent processes. He developed a scientific concept of the role of the nervous system influence on the inflammatory process and created new methods of treatment of inflammatory processes, purulent wounds, and a traumatic shock. Based on the idea of weak irritation of the nervous system as a therapeutic factor, he successfully applied a special balsamic liquid ointment, referred to as the Vishnevsky's ointment for the treatment of wounds and ulcerous processes. The Vishnevsky's Triad (methods of local anesthesia, Novocain blockades, and oil-balsamic dressings) became an epoch in the development of Soviet surgery, especially the military-field surgery. During the Great Patriotic War, these methods saved the lives of hundreds of thousands of wounded people.

On August 24, a stamp featuring panda Katyusha dedicated to the 75th Anniversary of Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China will go into postal circulation
Diplomatic relations between the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China were established on October 2, 1949. The People's Republic of China is one of the priority partners of Russia in the Asia-Pacific Region. Russia and China have established fruitful interaction and co-operation in many fields, with contacts at the level of foreign policy departments.
This issue is devoted to panda Katyusha, born in the Moscow Zoo in 2023 from pandas who had been brought to Moscow from Beijing in 2019. The 150g cub was born at the end of August of 2023. The Moscow Zoo called the birth of the little panda "a unique event both for the country and for the entire global environment-oriented community." Early in January of 2024, Russian residents chose a name for her by voting. The top three names were Katyusha, Momo and Masha, but the first name won by a large margin. According to Chinese tradition, names are given on the hundredth day after birth.

Kavkazskie Mineralnye Vody (Caucasian Mineral Waters) is a group of resorts of federal significance in the Stavropol Territory, a specially protected environmental and resort region of the Russian Federation.
Kislovodsk is situated higher than the rest spas (817-1063 m), the other resorts are located approximately at the same altitude: Essentuki stretches along the Podkumok River (600-640 m), Pyatigorsk is at the foot of the Mashuk Mountain (510-630 m), and Zheleznovodsk is located in the valley between the Beshtau and Zheleznaya mountains, as well as on the slopes at the foot of the latter (600-650 m).

TASS traces its history back to the St. Petersburg Telegraph Agency (SPTA), whose first working day was September 1 of 1904. The decision to establish the SPTA was made by Emperor Nicholas II. "The agency has the purpose to report political, financial, economic, commercial and other information of public interest inside the Empire and abroad", - said the message in the "Government Herald" of August 30, 1904. Since that time, the Agency has abided with the tasks set on its establishment, never changed its national status and never ceased its activities, objectively and promptly communicating information about key events in Russia and the world.

On August 30, a stamp dedicated to the Resurrection New Jerusalem Monastery will go into postal circulation in the Monasteries of the Russian Orthodox Church series
The Resurrection New Jerusalem Stavropigial Monastery was founded by His Holiness Patriarch Nikon. The monastery near Moscow was intended to become the embodiment of the Patriarch's cherished wish to create in Russia a likeliness of the Holy Land - Russian New Palestine with the Resurrection Cathedral predominating over everything, which would reconstitute in detail the Jerusalem sacred place - the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre. The construction of the Resurrection Cathedral was completed after the death of Patriarch Nikon in 1681. On January 18 of 1685, the Cathedral was consecrated by Patriarch Joachim.
The monastery was a famous pilgrimage center. In 1913, it was visited by about 35 thousand people. In July of 1919, it was closed and its property was nationalized. In the 1920s, the most valuable items from the sacristy of the Resurrection Cathedral were passed over to the Armory Chamber. A museum was opened on the territory of the Monastery; the holy places were partially destroyed or changed beyond recognition. New Jerusalem was badly damaged at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. Since 1947, the state began to carry out restoration works, which resulted in raising the Monastery from ruins and beginning of restoration of the interior of the Resurrection Cathedral.
The process of giving back the Monastery to the Russian Orthodox Church began in 1994. Divine service was resumed. In 2014, the bell tower was restored. On May 8 of 2016, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia performed the rite of the great consecration of the Resurrection Cathedral of the New Jerusalem Monastery.

Sergey Konenkov (1874–1971) was a sculptor, a graphic artist, and an educator, an Academician of the USSR Academy of Arts (1954), a People's Artist of the USSR (1958).
The author's creative work is notable for many-sidedness, innovation of artistic solutions, and emotional power of expressive images carrying a philosophical connotation. S. Konenkov created a great number of wooden characters from Slavic fairy tales, stone sculptures of prominent figures, and was one of the first to present nude female characters.
The master's works performed in different materials, such as wood, marble, or bronze, are available in galleries and private collections in Russia and abroad. In 1974, the Creative Workshop of S.T. Konenkov Memorial Museum of the Russian Academy of Arts was opened in Moscow. For today, the permanent exposition is by far the largest and most significant collection of artworks, which most fully represents all stages of the creative biography of the classic of Russian sculpture.
