On February 2, an envelope with a commemorative stamp dedicated to the defeat of the German fascist troops by the Soviet Army in the Battle of Stalingrad will go into postal circulation in the On the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945 series
The Battle of Stalingrad was one of the greatest battles of the Great Patriotic War. The victory at Stalingrad was a critical point of World War II, in which the Red Army surrounded and destroyed substantial enemy forces and seized the strategic initiative.
The Battle of Stalingrad is considered to begin on July 17, 1942. On November 19, 1942, the counter-offensive of the Red Army started in the framework of the Uran operation. On November 23, an immense fascist group was encircled in the area of Kalach-on-Don. During December, Italian, Romanian and some German units were annihilated. In January of 1943, blows inflicted by Soviet troops split the 6th Army into two parts. On January 31, the Nazis Southern Group was mopped up, and Field Marshal Paulus with 24 generals were taken prisoners. On February 2, 1943, the Northern Group of Germans surrendered.

On February 4, an envelope with a commemorative stamp dedicated to the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mikhail Prishvin, writer, will go into postal circulation
Mikhail Prishvin (1873–1954) was a Russian and Soviet novelist, prose writer and publicist.
He made his debut in literature in 1906: in the Rodnichok children's magazine Prishvin published his first story Sashok. In 1925, the first collection of stories for children entitled Matryoshka v Kartoshke (Matryoshka in the Potato) was issued. The first publication in the Murzilka children's magazine was in 1926: his story Gaechki was published in the 8th issue.
Prominence among the writings by Prishvin should be given to the following novels, essays and stories: In the Land of Fearless Birds: Sketches of the Vygovsky Krai, Zhen-shen (Root of Life), The Undressed Spring, Solovki, Facelia and The Forest Eavesdrop, as well as to his fairy tales Osudareva doroga (The Monarchic Road) and Korabelnaya chashcha (The Shipbuilding Thicket). Mikhail Prishvin himself considered his chief book to be The Diaries, which he was keeping for almost half a century (1905-1954).

On February 6, an envelope with a commemorative stamp dedicated to the 100th Birth Anniversary of Aleksandr Yefimov, Marshal of Aviation, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, will go into postal circulation in the On the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945 series
Aleksandr Yefimov (1923–2012) was a Soviet stunt strike pilot during the Great Patriotic War, a military commander, twice Hero of the Soviet Union (1944, 1945), Marshal of Aviation (1975).
He was on the front of the Great Patriotic War since August of 1942. During the war, Yefimov performed as many as 288 mission sorties in the IL-2 attack aircraft; in so doing he destroyed in person and as a member of a group 85 enemy planes on airfields and 8 planes were shot down in air battles, a lot of enemy personnel and materiel was eliminated.
In 1951, Yefimov graduated from the Monino Air Force Academy; then, in 1957, he graduated from the Voroshilov Highest Military Academy. From October of 1964 till March of 1969, he was the Commander of the 57th Air Army in the Precarpathian Military District. From February of 1985 till July of 1990, he was the Commander-in-Chief of the Air Force, a Deputy Minister of Defense of the USSR.

On February 10, a postal block dedicated to the 150th Birth Anniversary of Fyodor Shalyapin, a singer, will go into postal circulation
Fyodor Shalyapin (1873–1938) was a Russian opera and chamber singer (high bass), the first People's Artist of the Republic. He had a major impact on the world operatic art.
Since 1899, Shalyapin was the leading soloist of the country's Imperial theaters - the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow and the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg.
The singer's repertoire included about 400 works of different genres, mainly of chamber and folk-song ones. Among the masterpieces of Shalyapin's performing skills are the parts of Mephistopheles (Faust by Ch. Gounod) and Ruslan (Ruslan and Lyudmila by M. Glinka); The Flea, The Forgotten, The Warlord and The Trepak by M. Mussorgsky, The Night Review by M. Glinka, The Old Corporal by A. Dargomyzhsky, The Prophet by N. Rimsky-Korsakov, The Two Grenadiers by R. Schumann, The Twin by F. Schubert, and others. As to Russian folk songs, he is best known for his Dubinushka.

On February 17, four postage stamps dedicated to the mammoth fauna will go into postal circulation in the Fauna of Russia series
The mammoth fauna is a complex of mammals, which was formed in late Pleistocene (about 10-100 thousand years ago) in the extratropical zone of Eurasia and North America and migrated in accordance with changes in the glacier boundaries to the north or to the south.
Around the turn of the Holocene period (about 11 thousand years ago), due to sudden warming and humidifying of the climate, which led to thawing of tundra steppes and other radical changes in landscapes, the mammoth fauna broke up. Some species, such as the mammoth, the woolly rhinoceros, the Irish elk, and the cave lion, perished from the earth. A number of large species of tylopods and ungulates (wild camels, horses, yaks, saigas) survived in the steppes of Central Asia. Bison and wild asses adapted to life in completely different natural zones. Reindeer and caribous, muskoxen, Arctic foxes, wolverines, Arctic hares and other species were driven out far to the north.
The postage stamps provide images of representatives of the mammoth fauna: extinct – a cave bear and a woolly rhinoceros with cubs; currently available – an elk and a muskox.

By the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of June 24, 2000, for the courage and heroism demonstrated on the performance of military duty in the North Caucasus Region, Major Nikita Kul’kov was awarded the title of a Hero of the Russian Federation (posthumously).
The postage stamp provides a portrait of Hero of the Russian Federation Nikita Kul’kov, a battle scene and the Gold Star Medal.

On February 25, a postage stamp dedicated to the 100th Birth Anniversary of Vladimir Vinogradov, a scientist, a Hero of Socialist Labor, will go into postal circulation
Vladimir Vinogradov (1923–2003) was a scientist in the field of oil and gas industry, a Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor (1969), a Hero of Socialist Labor (1983).
From 1951 to 1993, he worked at the Gubkin Moscow Institute of Oil and Gas Industry: he was a senior lecturer, an associate professor, the Dean of the Mining and Oil Faculty, and the Head of a Chair.
In 1962-1993, Vinogradov was the Rector of the Institute, and since 1993, an Advisor to the Rector of the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas. In 1985-1992, he was the President of the Association of Moscow High Schools; and in 1992-1994, he held the position of the President of the Russian Union of Rectors.
Vinogradov is the author of more than 200 scientific papers, an Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (1993), an Honored Oil Worker, an Honored Prospector, an Honorary Worker of the Gas Industry, an Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the Uzbek and Turkmen SSR.
