On March 12, a stamp dedicated to Zhorez I. Alferov, scientist, will go into postal circulation in the Nobel Prize Winners series



Zhorez Ivanovich Alferov (1930–2019) is a Soviet and Russian physicist and political figure, a Nobel Prize Winner for physics. He is the author of more than 500 scientific papers, 4 monographs included, and more than 50 inventions.

In 2000, Zhorez Alferov in collaboration with Herbert Kroemer were awarded the Nobel Prize for physics for the fundamental works that laid the foundation of modern information technologies via development of semiconductor heterostructures applicable in microwave and optical electronics.

The stamp provides a Zh. Alferov’s portrait against a semiconductor heterojunction laser. Stamp sheet margins show the scientist’s quotation and sketches.

In addition to the issue of the postal stamp, JSC Marka will produce First Day Covers and special cancels for Moscow and St. Petersburg.
