Boris Vladimirovich Zakhoder (1918–2000) - Soviet and Russian children's writer, poet and translator, screenwriter. Laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation (1999), member of the Writers' Union.
Born on September 9, 1918 in the city of Kogul (Moldova). Childhood years spent in Moscow. He studied at the Moscow Aviation Institute, at the biological faculties of Moscow and Kazan universities. In 1938 he entered the Literary Institute. A.M. Gorky. As an employee of the army press participated in the Soviet-Finnish and World War II.
In 1947, Zakhoder published the first poem “Sea Battle”. In 1952 he published his translations of the stories of Anna Zegers. Later B. Zakhoder translates the works of K. čapek, J. Grabowski, J. Tuwim, J. Brzehva. In 1958, his retelling of the tale of the English writer A. Milne "Winnie the Pooh" was published in the magazine "Murzilka". The first edition of the book was published in 1960. In the period of 1950–1980s, Zakhoder’s poetry collections were published: “At the back row” (1955), “If they give me a boat” (1981), etc.
B. Zakhoder was most famous for his translations and retellings of children's fairy tales: “Mary Poppins” P. Travers (1968), “Alice's Adventures in Wonderland” by L. Carroll (1971–1972), the fairy tales of C. Chapek, and the Brothers Grimm (“The Bremen Musicians , 1982, and others.), The play by D.M. Barry "Peter Pan" (1967). Along with translations of children's poems and original poems for children, Zakhoder spoke with fairy tales in prose (eventually giving them the name "Tales for Beasts"). Poems and fairy tales of the writer translated into many languages of the world and published in England, USA, Australia, Germany, Poland, Romania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia.
