Vasily Dmitriyevich Revyakin (1918-1944) was the head of an underground anti-fascist organization, participant in the Great Patriotic War, posthumous Hero of the Soviet Union (1965).
He entered the Great Patriotic War at the Southern Front and took part in the defence of Odessa and Sevastopol as a soldier of the 18
th Guards Artillery Red Banner Regiment. In March 1943 Revyakin set up the first underground anti-fascist groups in the city. In a short while his most powerful underground organization in Crimea included 120 members and dozens of active supporters. The members committed sabotage actions at the city plants and factories, at the sea port and in the railway station. Later on Vasily Revyakin managed to establish connection with the Crimean partisans and Black Sea Fleet intelligence officers. In March 1944 Revyakin was arrested, tortured and shot by the Nazis on 14 April.
Vasily Dmitriyevich Revyakin was posthumously awarded the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union on 8 May 1965 for the establishment and management of the underground anti-fascist organization in Sevastopol during the Great Patriotic War, for his outstanding merits, courage and valour shown in the fight against the Nazi German invaders.
