February 2, a postage stamp dedicated to the Battle of Stalingrad was put into circulation in the Way to the Victory series

The Battle of Stalingrad was a major battle of the Great Patriotic War; it lasted from 17 July 1942 to 2 February 1943. The Battle of Stalingrad had two periods in terms of tactical activities: the defensive stage form 17 July till 17 November 1942 aiming at the defense of Stalingrad (since 1961 Volgograd), and the offensive period form 19 November 1942 till 2 February 1943 which resulted in a crashing defeat of the Nazi German forces.

The Soviet victory over the Germans at Stalingrad was the turning point in World War II, it had a significant impact on people’s lives in the invaded areas, brought hope for liberation and encouraged the growth of the resistance movement.
