October 26, two postage stamps to be put into circulation in the joint issue between the Russian Federation and the Republic of India dedicated to folk dances

Russian folk dances are characterized by the representation of national traits, stately movements, bold prowess remarkably combined with poetry and self-esteem. The most popular dances are the round dance, hopping, quadrille, barynya, kalinka, etc. A circle dance native to central Russia and Belarus, Beryozka comprises synchronized movements and simultaneous singing. The key traits are smooth motion in circle, in sequence (one by another), snake-like, and in two lines, as well as spinning one around the other or in pairs around common centers in groups, and narrow and frequent steps, which creates an impression of sliding. The dancers hold handkerchiefs or branches of birch in their hands.

An Indian classic dance is a complex system based on ancient manuscripts on the scenic art. It consists of various elements, gestures, facial expressions and symbolic poses. Bhavai is a genre of folk dance popular in Indian states of Rajasthan and Gujarat. The men play music, while the female performer dances balancing eight or nine pitchers on her head, wearing a colorful costume with numerous jewelry, which makes the performance technically complex, as well as attractive to the audience. It is assumed that this genre of dance was evolved from the tradition of the Rajasthani to carry a number of pots of water on head over a long distance in the desert, which influenced the state culture and the dance in particular. Bhavai is performed at weddings and other various celebrations; it is popular in other states of India and internationally.

The postage depict the Beryozka round dance Bhavai.
