The postage stamps depict athletes, who have gained top score and glorified national football at international scale.
Anatoly Andreyevich Banishevsky (1946–1997) — a forward, a coach. A participant of 1966 world cup tournament, a silver medallist of 1972 UEFA European Football Championship.
Valery Ivanovich Voronin (1939–1998) — a midfielder, a USSR national team coach. A participant of 1962 and 1966 world cup tournaments, silver medallist of 1964 UEFA European Nations' Cup. He became a member of the symbolic World XI team at 1962 world cup tournament.
Anatoly Mikhailovich Ilyin (1931–2016) — a forward, a coach. A participant of 1958 world cup tournament, a 1956 Olympic champion. He scored the first goal in the history of Europe Cups and Championships (in 1/8 Final of the 1960 UEFA European Nations' Cup).
Evgeny Vasilyevich Rudakov (1942–2011) — a goalkeeper, a coach. A silver medallist of 1972 UEFA European Football Championship, bronze medallist of the Games of the XX Olympiad.
Pavel Fyodorovich Sadyrin (1942–2001) — a midfielder, a Russian national team head coach 1992–1994. Under his leadership the national team participated in 1994 world cup tournament.
Igor Leonidovich Chislenko (1939–1994) — a midfielder. A participant of 1962 and 1966 world cup tournaments, a 1964 UEFA European Nations' Cup silver medallist.
Albert Alekseyevich Shesternev (1941–1994) — a fullback, a USSR national team captain, a coach. A participant of 1962, 1966 and 1970 world cup tournaments, a 1964 UEFA European Nations' Cup silver medallist.
Additionally, FSUE PTC “Marka” manufactured first day covers and special cancellation postmarks for Ekaterinburg, Kaliningrad, Kazan, Krasnodar, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov-on-Don, St Petersburg, Samara, Saransk, Sochi and Volgograd.
An illustrated cover containing 2016 stamp sheets, and a Russian Football Legends stamp booklet, which will comprise all the stamps issued over two years, will also be produced.
