Russkaya Pravda was the legal code of Ancient Rus and the first and main source of Old Russian Law. It was published by Prince Yaroslav the Wise ca 1016–1054 and reached us in manuscripts dating from the 13th to the 18th centuries in three editions — the short one, the extensive one and the abridged one. Each edition reflects certain stages of social relations development in the Old Russian state.
The document comprises inheritance, family, trade and criminal laws, as well as adjective legislation and legal status of various strata of the population.
Not only is Russkaya Pravda an important part of the history of law in Russia, but also an outstanding cultural monument as it reflects life of Ancient Russia, its traditions and principles of economic activities.
