Football is one of the most popular sports both in Russia and all around the world. Representatives of different generations, interests and convictions play it on professional and amateur levels or whole-heartedly support their national team as devoted football aficionados.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ will be the 21st edition of the tournament and is set to take place from 14 June until 15 July 2018 at 12 stadiums in 11 Russian cities.
The postage stamps depict athletes, who have gained top score and glorified national football at international scale.
Viktor Maksimovich Bannikov (1938–2001) — A goalkeeper, a coach. Participant of 1966 world cup tournament. Silver medallist of 1972 UEFA European Football Championship.
Konstantin Ivanovich Beskov (1920–2006) — A forward, a USSR national team head coach. Under his leadership the national team won silver at 1964 UEFA European Nations' Cup, bronze at the Games of the XXII Olympiad, and participated in 1982 world cup tournament. He was awarded the FIFA Order of Merit in 2004.
Nikolai Gavrilovich Latyshev (1913–1999) — A fullback, a referee of an international and all-Union category. Member of FIFA Referee Committee and a 1962 world cup final match referee. He was awarded the FIFA Gold Whistle.
Slava Kalistratovich Metreveli (1936–1998) — A forward, a coach. Participant of 1962, 1966 and 1970 world cup tournaments, 1960 UEFA European Nations' Cup holder. Sochi Central Stadium is named after him.
Nikolai Petrovich Morozov (1916–1981) — A midfielder, a USSR national team head coach 1964-1966. Under his leadership the national team participated in 1966 world cup tournament, where it showed its best result.
Igor Aleksandrovich Netto (1930–1999) — A midfielder, a USSR national team captain, a coach. Participant of 1958 and 1962 world cup tournaments, 1956 Olympic champion, 1960 UEFA European Nations' Cup holder.
Galimzyan Salikhovich Khusainov (1937–2010) — A forward, a coach. Participant of 1962 and 1966 world cup tournaments, a 1964 UEFA European Nations' Cup silver medallist.
