Murmansk is a Russian port, which is located on the Eastern coast of the Kola Bay of the Barents sea, it is the largest city in the world located above the Arctic circle. The main industry are fishing and fish processing. Ship repairing, metal processing, geological exploration of mineral resources are also developed.

Hero of the Russian Federation is the highest title awarded for services to the state and to the people associated with the performance of a heroic feat. Established on March 20, 1992. The Hero of the Russian Federation is awarded a “Gold Star” medal, a special sign of distinction.

Nikolay V. Skrypnik (1944-1996) was the first Deputy commander of North-Caucasian district of internal troops of the MIA of Russia, General-major. He was awarded (posthumously) the title of Hero of the Russian Federation for bravery and heroism in the performance of the counter-terrorist operation.

July 11, 1996 when was the detour of positions units on the borders of the village happened the destruction of the APC. N.V. Skrypnik was fatally wounded and died in hospital.

Mark N. Evtuhin (1964-2000) was the Commander of the parachute battalion, 104 guards parachute regiment 76 guards airborne division, Colonel. October 7, postage stamp dedicated to the 100th birth anniversary of the theologian and Church historian Metropolitan Macarius (Bulgakov) to be issued



Metropolitan of Moscow and Kolomna Macarius (Bulgakov) is an outstanding Russian thinker and public figure. The author of the multivolume works "Orthodox dogmatic theology" and "History of the Russian Church”, the founder of the awards for promotion of talents, devoting themselves to the cause of science and public knowledge.

Metropolitan Macarius (Bulgakov) was born in 1816, in Moscow. In 1841-1842 years taught Russian Church and civil history at the Kiev theological Academy. In 1843 he was approved to the rank of extraordinary Professor of theology by the Synod. In 1844-1857 years was an ordinary Professor of dogmatic theology of St. Petersburg theological Academy and since 1850 he was appointed to the position of rector.

The prize in the theological, humanitarian and natural Sciences were founded by Metropolitan Macarius in 1867, these prizes are awarded in five nominations: "The History of the Orthodox Church”, “The History of Russia”, “The History of Moscow and the historical Ethnography", "The History of Orthodox countries and peoples," also a workbook or a training manual represents the contribution to the science in one of these categories.

October 11, postage stamps dedicated to the Battle of Hanko and the Yelnya Offensive to be issued as part of the Way to Victory series



A heroic defense of a Soviet naval base at Hanko Peninsula continued for 164 days, from 22 June till 2 December 1941. Air and sea forces of the Nazi troops were attacking a Soviet naval base at Hanko Peninsula from the start of the Great Patriotic War. The peninsula was withstanding everyday aerial bombardments and taking artillery fire from the sea and land. Not only did the Soviet forces withstood the enemy’s push for 164 days, but also stormed ashore, conducted reconnaissance, and attacked hostile ships, batteries and airfields. The Battle of Hanko left its mark in history of the Soviet naval warfare as an example of successful and selfless fighting in an island area.

The Yelnya Offensive was a Soviet Army’s operation during the Great Patriotic War. The operation began on 30 August 1941, when the 24th and 43rd Armies of the Soviet Reserve Front commenced their attack, and ended on 6 September 1941. It was the first success of the Soviet troops in the Great Patriotic War. The operation resulted in the destruction of the Yelnya salient, which was a staging area for an offensive against Moscow, as well as a break through the enemy defense, overthrow of its forces and expulsion of the enemy from a part of the captured territory. Heavy damage was inflicted upon the Nazi troops and the Soviet Army operative status at the front line was enhanced. For the first time, four Rifle Divisions were transformed into elite Guards Divisions for valor and heroism.

October 15, a postage stamp dedicated to the 100th birth anniversary of Dzhemaldin Yandiyev, a poet, an Ingush literature classic, to be issued



Dzhemaldin Khamurzayevich Yandiyev was a People’s Poet of the Chechen-Ingush ASSR, a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR.

He was born in the village of Balta, Prigorodnoye District, the Chechen-Ingush ASSR. In 1929, he enrolled into a preparatory group of the Vladikavkaz Industrial Polytechnic School, and received a degree of a heating engineer in 1936. The same year, he started working for Leninskiy Put’ (“The Lenin’s Way”) newspaper. He was the Chairman of the Union of the Soviet Writers of the Chechen-Ingush ASSR from 1938 till 1944. On 23 February 1944, he was deported to Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan together with his fellow Ingush and Chechen.

He was the author of such collections of prose and verse about modernity as The Mirror of Time (1941), My Home Mountains (1959), Thoughts (1966), Selection (1976), etc. He translated works of Alexander Pushkin, Mikhail Lermontov and Alexander Blok into the Ingush language.

Currently, the poet’s works enjoys wide popularity in Russia and around the whole world. His verses are translated into Russian, Georgian, Polish, Kazakh and other languages. Dzhemaldin Yandiyev was awarded the Badge of Honor order for merits in developing Soviet literature.

October 25, a souvenir sheet dedicated to the 225th birth anniversary of Sergei Aksakov, a writer, and to the 175th birth anniversary of Savva Mamontov, an industrialist and a patron of the arts



The Abramtsevo Museum Reserve is located 60 km from Moscow, not far from Sergiyev Posad. The museum complex comprises architectural monuments of the 18th and the 19th centuries (6 of them are monuments of federal importance), a park and a scenic surrounding area of the Vorya River, where outstanding Russian artists created their works of art. The museum collection contains more than 25,000 objects — paintings, drawings, ceramics, photos, sculptures and others.

In 1843, Sergey Aksakov (1791–1859), a writer, civil servant and public person, book and theater critic, as well as an author of memoirs and books about fishing and hunting, bought Abramtsevo. There, he created his best works Notes on Fishing, Notes of a Hunter in Orenburg Province, autobiographical novels A Family Chronicle and Childhood Years of the Bagrov Grandson, a fairy tale The Scarlet Flower. Such writers as Nikolai Gogol, Ivan Turgenev, Aleksey Khomyakov, Mikhail Shchepkin and others visited the estate when the Aksakovs owned it.

Savva Mamontov (1841-1918), a railway mogul, philanthropist and founder of the first private opera in Russia, purchased Abramtsevo in 1870. During this time, Vasily Polenov, Viktor Vasnetsov, Ilya Repin, Ilya Ostroukhov, Valentin Serov, Konstantin Korovin, Mikhail Nesterov, Mikhail Vrubel and other artists, musicians and actors lived and worked in the estate. The creative collaboration of these artists left its mark in the history of art as the Abramtsevo Circle, which laid the foundations of national, neo-Russian art movement of the Art Nouveau style and determined the work the World of Art association, the Konstantin Stanislavski Moscow Art Theatre and the Ballets Russes of Sergei Diaghilev at the turn of the 20th century. The members of the Abramtsevo Circle created one of the first museums of works of Russian folk art, and the Abramtsevo workshops initiated the revival and development of old crafts, such as woodcarving and majolica production.

October 25, four postcards with an original stamp dedicated to prominent statesmen of the customs service, is issued as part of “The History of Russian customs” series





History of Russian customs begins at the end of the 10th century, with the first mention of the trading fees that are taxed in the Old Russian state consumer goods on their way from producer to consumer.

In the middle of the 13th century Mongol-Tatars introduced his fee - tamga. Over the years, this title has passed to all charges, received the name of the customs, and the place of its collection - customs. Passing the way of the several-hundred-old development, the Russian Customs can be proud of its history, traditions, achievements and dedicated staff.

At all times on guard for economic interests of the state were state, politicians and public figures; lawyers, economists, scientists, architects, ordinary customs. October 31, postage stamp dedicated to the 1000th anniversary of the first set of laws of Ancient Russia “Russkaya Pravda” to be issued



“Russkaya Pravda” is a set of laws and regulations of Ancient Russia, the first main written source of Russian law. The set of laws was published about 1016-1054 years by the feudal lord Yaroslav the Wise, came to us in the list of the XIII–XVIII centuries in three versions: short, expanded and condensed, each of version displays specific stages of development of the social relations in the Ancient Russian state.

The document composed of norms of inheritance, the law of domestic relations, the trade and criminal laws, principles of procedural legislation and propositions of social classes of various strata of population.

The Code book “Russkaya Pravda” is an important part of the Russian history of law; also it is a monument of culture, because it reflects the household, the life, traditions and principles of housekeeping of Ancient Russia.
