July 5, a postage stamp dedicated to GLONASS, a Russian space-based navigation system, is issued

GLONASS ("GLObal NAvigation Satellite System") is a Russian satellite navigation system providing real-time positioning services to unlimited number of users on land, at sea, in the air and in space.

The full orbital constellation consists of 24 satellites, operating in three orbital planes, with eight evenly spaced satellites on each. This characteristic grants high stability to the GLONASS constellation, which allows dispensing with trimming orbits of the satellites during their lifetime.

The postage stamp features the GLONASS-K satellite and graphic icons representing the main application areas of the satellite navigation system services.

Additionally, FSUE PTC “Marka” has manufactured first day covers and first day postmarks for Moscow and Zheleznogorsk, Krasnodar Krai.
