February 18, five stamps dedicated to Gatchina, Grozny, Petrozavodsk, Staraya Russa and Feodosia have been issued as a continuation of the Cities of Military Glory series

A City of Military Glory is an honorary title of the Russian Federation conferred to cities for “courage, endurance and mass heroism displayed by the defenders of the city in fighting for freedom and independence of the Motherland”. A statute on condition and procedure of awarding the title is approved by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation no 1340 dated 1 December 2006. The honorary title of the “City of Military Glory” continues a USSR tradition of awarding cities a title of the “Hero City”, the highest form of recognition.

This issue continues the Cities of Military Glory series, which has been running since 2009. Nowadays, there are 45 cities in the Russian Federation, which are awarded this honorary title, and now every one of them is immortalized on a postal miniature. The total circulation of the stamps issued has amounted to approximately 4 million copies.
