September 1, an envelope with a commemorative stamp “The 100th Foundation Anniversary of Central Studio of Children's and Youth Films named after M. Gorky” will to be released into circulation



Central Studio of Children's and Youth Films named after M. Gorky is one of the oldest and largest studios in Russia.

The history of the studio began in 1915 when M. Trofimov, a merchant from Kostroma, created an atelier “Rus”. Over the years the studio has released more than a thousand films, including such outstanding works as “Mother” by Vsevolod Pudovkin, “Road to Life” by Nikolai Ekk, “The House I Live In” by Lev Kulidzhanov and Yakov Segel, “And Quiet Flows the Don” by Sergei Gerasimov, “The Dawns Here Are Quiet” by Stanislav Rostotsky, “Seventeen Moments of Spring” by Tatyana Lioznova and many other films that are included in the golden fund of Russian and World cinema.

An EWCS depicts the building of the studio and movie posters to films released by Gorky Film Studio in various years.

A special postmark (cancellation: Moscow) is manufactured in addition to an EWCS issue.

September 2, a postage stamp “The 70th Anniversary of World War II Ending” will be released into circulation



World War II (01.09.1939-02.09.1945) was the biggest armed conflict in the history of mankind.

The fighting took place on the territory of three continents and in the waters of four oceans. Around 110 million people were intended in the armies of warring countries, the death toll was more than 65 million. War engulfed the territory of 40 countries of three continents: Europe, Asia, Africa, and the four Ocean theaters of military operations (Atlantic, Pacific, Indian and Arctic Oceans). The Second World War has radically changed the international situation and became a tragic lesson for the nations of the world.

The stamp depicts a Lieutenant-General Kuzma Derevyanko during the signing of the Instrument of the Japanese surrender on board of the “Missouri” US battleship in Tokyo Bay.

September 9, a souvenir sheet with one stamp “The 500th Anniversary of the Nizhny Novgorod Stone Kremlin” will be released into circulation



Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin is a unique military and engineering installation of the beginning of the 16th century. Built in 1515, it was considered one of the most complete constructions of Russian military architecture. Nowadays Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin is a historical and cultural center of Nizhny Novgorod. It houses the Plenipotentiary of the President in the Volga Federal District, regional and city administrations, Art Museum and a Modern Art Center. Since 1958 the Kremlin has been a part of Nizhny Novgorod Historical and Architectural Museum Preserve.

The souvenir sheet depicts a scene of inspection of Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin from the opposite shore of the Volga at the end of the construction in 1515. From left to right: Pietro Francesko (an Italian architect, who built the Nizhny Novgorod Stone Kremlin from 1509 till 1511), boyars from the Tsar’s entourage, builders who took part in the Kremlin construction, Grand Prince Vasily Ivanovich and Nizhny Novgorod Prince Andrey Borisovich Gorbatyi-Shuisky.

World War I marked the beginning for change in warfare tactics. New types of weaponry and military equipment, such as aircraft, tanks, automatic weapons and powerful artillery, emerged, and started being used on battlefields.

United Nations (UN) is an international organization devoted to the maintenance and strengthening of peace and security, development of the cooperation between States. It was founded in 1945, nowadays 193 countries are the members of the organization.

The main objectives of the organization are to establish a dialogue between the Member States, conduction of fruitful international negotiations and the adoption of the joint decision of global problems.

September 15, 2015 the 70th session of the UN General Assembly opens.

The stamp depicts the logo of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations with the UN headquarters on the background.

September 17, an envelope with a commemorative stamp “The 100th Birth Anniversary of Sergei Smirnov (1915-1976), Writer, Historian” will be released into circulation



Sergey Smirnov was Russian and Soviet writer, historian, radio and television host, social activist, a veteran of World War II, Lenin Prize winner (1965).

He began to be published as a journalist in 1934. His books “Brest Fortress” (1957, the Lenin Prize in 1965), “Heroes of Brest Fortress” (1959), “Tales of the Unknown Heroes” (1963), “The Family” (1967), the play “Fortress of the Bug” (1955) and etc., as well as performances of Sergei Smirnov in the press, on the radio and television, in “Exploits” TV Almanac made an enormous contribution to the search for the missing and unknown heroes of the war.

The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) is the federal-level executive governmental organ responsible for the adoption of regulations, control and supervision the execution of the antitrust law in the field of competition in product markets, the protection of competition on the financial services of natural monopolies and advertising.

FAS Russia celebrates the 25th foundation anniversary in 2015.

September 22, two postage stamps in the framework of a joint issue between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Azerbaijan will be released into circulation



The subject of a joint issue is “Modern Architecture”. It is a trend characterized by usage of new architectural methods, which meet the modern social needs, aesthetic demands and industry development level.

The Moscow Kremlin is a fortress in the center of Moscow and the oldest part of it, the main socio-political, historical and artistic complex of the city, the official residence of the President of the Russian Federation. Nowadays the main sights of Moscow is not only the old buildings in the city center, but the skyscrapers that have been built over the past 10-15 years. In the capital, there are 87 buildings with a height exceeding 100 m.

One of the most majestic and mysterious monuments of Baku is the Maiden Tower (Giz Galasi). It rises in the south-eastern part of the fortress, and has been considered as a symbol of the city. Flame Towers is the highest building in Azerbaijan, located in Baku.

September 23, two postage stamps in the series “Sea Fleet” will be released into circulation



Prirazlomnoe is the first and only field on the Russian Arctic shelf where oil production is carried out. This is the only project in the world, where production in the Arctic is performed with a stationary platform.

“Mikhail Ulyanov” Arctic Shuttle Tanker uses a double-action principle in its operation –its bow and stern are of an icebreaking form, which enables the ship to move through the ice. In winter, the ship can operate without being accompanied by an icebreaker while moving through ice up to 1.2 m thick.

September 24, a stamp dedicated to the nuclear industry of Russia is issued



Pursuant to the Decree No 9887ss dated 20 August 1945 issued by the State Defense Committee (SDC), the SDC USSR Special Committee, a special administration managing works with uranium, was created. It consisted of high-ranking government officials and physical scientsits.

Russian nuclear industry is one of the leading in the world in terms of scientific and technological inventions in the field of reactor development, nuclear fuel, atomic power plant operation and personnel qualification. The enterprises of the industry have gained enormous experience in achieving ambitious goals such as creation of the world’s first nuclear power plant (1954) and developing of fuel for it.

Nowadays, the nuclear industry of Russia is a large complex of uniting more than 250 companies and organizations, which have a staff of more than 190,000 people. The industry comprises four large research and manufacturing complexes: enterprises of nuclear fuel cycle, atomic power generation, nuclear weapons complex and research facilities.

September 25, a postage stamp “Saint Vladimir the Great, the Baptizer of the Rus’” will be released into circulation



Vladimir Sviatoslavich the Great (ca. 960–1015) was a prince of Novgorod (970–988) and grand prince of Kiev. He was an outstanding political figure and the one who Christianized the Kievan Rus’. He was canonized as equal to the apostles, the natal day in Russian Orthodoxy is July 15 (28).

The stamp depicts a portrait of the Saint Vladimir the Great, the images of the baptism of the prince and Russia, as well as the old Russian military accessories and Orthodox worship attributes.

September 28, a postal card with original stamp “The 100th Birth Anniversary of Georgy Tovstonogov (1915-1989), Theater Director, Teacher” will be released into circulation



Georgy Tovstonogov (1915-1989) was a theater director, teacher, theatrical figure. People's Artist of USSR (1957), Hero of Socialist Labor (1983).

Each of the plays put up by the director became a true cultural event not only in Leningrad but across the whole country. The most popular plays were “The Divine Comedy” of Isidor Shtock (1962), “The Barbarians” (1959) and “The Philistines” (1966) of Maksim Gorky, “Woe from Wit” of Alexander Griboyedov (1962), “Once Again About Love” of Edvard Radzinsky (1964), “Virgin Soil Upturned” of Mikhail Sholokhov (1964), “Three Sisters” of Anton Chekhov (1965), “Henry IV” of William Shakespeare (1969), and others.
