May 28, four stamps in the series "Fauna of Russia", dedicated to service breeds of dogs are to be released into circulation

Strong, hardy, large and courageous dogs with acute hearing and good power of scent belong to service breeds.

In Russia, ten breeds of dogs are considered to be working breeds. Five of them are Shephards (German, Scottish, Caucasian, Central Asian and South Russian), a Black Russian Terrier, Moscow Watchdog, Airedale, Giant Schnauzer and Rottweiler.

Central Asian Shepherd Dog (Alabai) is an ancient breed from Central Asia. Large herding dogs are capable to guard and protect the flock, and to join and win the fight with the wolves in the rain, cold and heat. Central Asian Shepherd is a huge and unpretentious dog, requires little maintenance and adapts to any climate. Indifferent to strangers outside of its territory, it becomes a formidable and vigilant guard, being on the protected object.

Black Russian Terrier - is a breed of dog created in USSR in Red Star (Krasnaya Zvezda) Kennel during the late 1940s and the early 1950s for use as a military/working dogs, by crossing the 14 breeds such as the Giant Schnauzer, Airedale Terrier, Rottweiler, Newfoundland, Moscow Diver and others. The contemporary Russian Black Terrier is a working dog, guarding dog, sporting and companion dog.

South Russian Shepherd Dog is a large, long-haired, white sheepdog. It has a long head, with dangling, small, triangular ears. Its coat consists of long, thick coarse hair, usually white, that is bushy and slightly wavy.

An undemanding dog, it can adapt to most weather conditions.

Caucasian Shepherd is one of the oldest dog breeds, exists for over two thousand years. The Caucasian shepherd is rather intelligent; however, they can be insolent and refuse to listen at times. They also can be fairly aggressive towards people they do not know and with incorrect handling this can be problematic. This can be overcome by proper training. This is proud and rebellious dog at the same time utterly devoted to its master.

Stamps depict the Black Russian Terrier, the South Russian Shepherd Dog, the Caucasian Shepherd and the Central Asian Shepherd Dog.
