March 18, a postal card with commemorative stamp “The 50th Anniversary of the First Spacewalk” in the series “Space Exploration” is to be released into circulation


March 18, 1965, a booster "Soyuz" with a double spacecraft "Voskhod-2" on board was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome.

During the flight, which lasted a little more than a day, cosmonaut Alexei Leonov was outside the spacecraft for 12 minutes and nine seconds, connected to the craft by a 5.35-meter tether. The aim of the experiment was to investigate the possibility of travel and work of man in space and to test the suit "Berkut".

Lieutenant Colonel Alexey Leonov was granted the title Hero of the Soviet Union, awarded the Order of Lenin and the medal "Gold Star" for the successful implementation of the flight and for shown courage and heroism on March 23, 1965.

FSUE "Marka" Publishing and Trading Centre also released a special postmark with a fixed date (cancellation: Kaluga) in addition to the issue of a postal card with commemorative stamp.
