An EWCS “The 100th Birth Anniversary of Svyatoslav T. Richter (1915-1997), Pianist”

Svyatoslav T. Richter (1915-1997) was one of the greatest pianists of the XX century. He is known for his virtuoso technique, repertoire diversity and depth of interpretation.

Svyatoslav Richter was born in Zhytomir, March 20, 1915. Over time the family moved to Odessa. His father was a musician and he gave first piano lessons to his son.

Richter became an accompanist in the music circle at the House of the seaman when he was fifteen years old. After graduation, he worked in the Odessa Philharmonic as a concertmaster for several years, and he began working in the Odessa Opera House in 1932.

Richter went to Moscow and entered the Moscow Conservatory in spring 1937, where November 26, 1940, and he made the debut.

Svyatoslav Richter was in Moscow during the war. He gave concerts whenever it was possible. He took part and awarded his first prize in the All-Union competition of musicians in 1945; he was awarded the Stalin Prize in 1949.

The real sensation was a concert of Richter in New York and in other US cities in 1960. The same year the musician was awarded "Grammy" for the execution of the Second Piano Concerto by Brahms (he became the first Soviet performer awarded “Grammy”).

The envelope with the original stamp depicts a portrait of Svyatoslav Richter and a fragment of musical notation of Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 2: Prelude and Fugue No. 1 in C major on a postage stamp; the main image is a pianist at the piano.

Georgiy S. Zhzhenov (1915-2005) was born in St. Petersburg on March 9 (22). Zhzhenov was interested in circus, cinema and theater from childhood, therefore he dropped out of school and attended the acrobatic department of the Leningrad Variety and Circus College in 1930.


One year later, George Zhzhёnov began to perform in the Leningrad circus "Chapiteau", cascade acrobatics genre. There he was offered the main role of a tractor driver Pasha Vetrov in the film "A Fault of a Hero" (1932).

Having matriculated from the Leningrad Circus Tekhnikum in 1932, he appeared in several movies, including the legendary “Chapaev” (1934) and "Crown Prince of the Republic" (1934).

In 1954-1962 he worked as an actor at the Leningrad Regional Drama Theater, and since 1960 in The Lensoviet Academic Theatre also. In 1968 he moved to Moscow, where he worked in Mossovet State Academic Theatre until his death.

Georgiy Zhzhenov became famous after the role of inspector in the movie of Eldar Ryazanov "Beware of the Car".

Next well-known role of Zhzhenov was in a film of Benjamin Dorman “Resident's Mistake” The film has a huge success and it was decided to make a sequel, and the second film "Resident’s Wat” was released in 1970. Twelve years later Benjamin Dorman returned to the heroes, so loved by the audience. The third film "Resident is Back " was released in 1982 and the fourth film of the tetralogy "End of RESIDENT Project" was released in 1986.

Georgiy Zhzhenov was played about 100 roles in theater and 70 roles in the movie. He was awarded People's Artist of the RSFSR (1973), People's Artist of the USSR (1980), awarded the Order "For Services to the Fatherland” II, III, IV degree.

March 18, two postage stamps dedicated to military counterintelligence officers in the series “The 70th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War” will be released into circulation

During the Great Patriotic War it was created the most powerful network of military counterintelligence in our country, and its tradition is still going on. The important strategic tasks of identifying of enemy agents, anti-sabotage, terrorism and desertion are performed due to counterintelligence officers. They often fought on the front lines.

Alexander Galushkin (1903-1942) - the military counter-intelligence of the Black Sea Fleet, battalion commissar, a member of the defense of the Crimea.

 
Pavel Silaev (1916-1942) - the military counter-intelligence of the Black Sea Fleet, junior political officer, a member of the defense of Sevastopol.

March 18, a postal card with commemorative stamp “The 50th Anniversary of the First Spacewalk” in the series “Space Exploration” will be released into circulation

 

March 18, 1965, a booster "Soyuz" with a double spacecraft "Voskhod-2" on board was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome.


During the flight, which lasted a little more than a day, cosmonaut Alexei Leonov was outside the spacecraft for 12 minutes and nine seconds, connected to the craft by a 5.35-meter tether. The aim of the experiment was to investigate the possibility of travel and work of man in space and to test the suit "Berkut".

Lieutenant Colonel Alexey Leonov was granted the title Hero of the Soviet Union, awarded the Order of Lenin and the medal "Gold Star" for the successful implementation of the flight and for shown courage and heroism on March 23, 1965.

March 19, two postage stamps in the series “Submariner Heroes” are going to be released into circulation

 

During the Great Patriotic War surface and submarine ships provided effective assistance to Red Army troops in military operations in multiple directions; they conducted combat operations to break down the enemy water communications. Heroic deeds of the “Shch-406” (under the command of captain Evgeniy Osipov) and “S-13” submarines crews (captained by Alexander Marinesko) are widely known.

Evgeniy Ya. Osipov (1913-1943) was a captain II awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for the excellent performance of combat missions in the Great Patriotic War and his valor and heroism. He was also awarded the Order of Lenin and the Order of the Patriotic War (1st class).

Alexander I. Marinesko (1913-1963) was a captain III awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union (posthumously) for courage and heroism shown while opposing the Nazi aggressors in the Great Patriotic War. He was also awarded two Orders of Lenin, two Orders of Red Banner and medals “For Battle Merit” and “For the Defense of Leningrad”.

March 26, a postage stamp “The 150th Anniversary of Zemstvo Post” is going to be released into circulation

 

 

Zemstvo (local) Post was a special service introduced for mailing purposes in areas with no state post offices.

The first Zemstvo Post was established in Vetluga uyezd (district) of Kostroma Governorate in spring 1865.

Each Zemstvo postal authority acted only within its administrative territory. Zemstvo post offices were allowed to have their own stamps for postal payment provided that such stamps should not resemble either in image or colour the official postage stamps; nor might such stamps contain the emblem of the state postal service. The first Zemstvo postage stamp was issued in Verhnedneprovsk Governorate in 1866.

Most correspondence was sent across Zemstvo territories of eastern provinces – Perm, Samara, Vyatka, Kazan, Ufa, as well as in Kharkov, Poltava, Kursk, Tambov and Yekaterinoslav Governorates. It was issued 3027 postage stamps since 1866. The circulation of some issues reached tens and hundreds of thousands copies. That provided an active forwarding mail.

Zemstvo Post played an important and progressive role in Russia’s history as it enabled liaison between cultural centres and most distant corners of the country.

An illustrated cover has been prepared for the release with one postage stamp and two FDC with cancellation (Moscow; Saint Petersburg) inside.

March 21, a postage stamp “Dzerzhinsky Independent Operational Purpose Division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia” will be released into circulation

 

 

Dzerzhinsky Independent Operational Purpose Division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia is the oldest interconnection of internal troops, which traces its history from the first guards of Smolny in Petrograd, where the government of the young Soviet republic was located. At the beginning of the 20s division became a part of the First Cavalry under the command of Semyon Budyonny. Later, in 1924, it was transformed into a separate division of special forces of the NKVD.

The military division made an invaluable contribution to the victory of the Soviet people, heroically fighting against the Nazi invaders in the West and Volkhov fronts. June 24, 1945 shelf units marched through Red Square and laid the banner of Nazi Germany to the foot of the mausoleum during the Victory Day parade.

In the postwar years combined battalion provided the security during the World Festival of Youth and Students, Olympics-80, APEC summit in Vladivostok, XXVII World Summer Universiade in Kazan and other events.

The stamp (date of release: 21.03.2015) depicts the logo of Dzerzhinsky Independent Operational Purpose Division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, the Order of Lenin, the Order of Zhukov, the Order of the October Revolution and the Order of the Red Banner.
