October 24, a stamp “Full Cavalier of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, Galina Vishnevskaya (1926-2012), Opera Singer, People’s Artist of the USSR” is to be released into circulation.


Galina Pavlovna Vishnevskaya (1926–2012) was a Soviet and Russian soprano opera singer, stage director, actress and People’s Artist of the USSR.

She was a member of the Bolshoi Theatre in 1952-1974. She created a number of unforgettable female characters in operas. To continue and glorify Russia’s great opera traditions on the international stage, she opened the Opera Centre in Moscow in September 2002. For her invaluable contribution to the world music art Galina Vishnevskaya received orders of Merit for the Fatherland, I, II, III and IV class, as well other most prestigious world awards.

The stamp depicts a portrait of GP Vishnevskaya and the Order of Merit for the Fatherland.

A first day cover with cancellation (Moscow, Saint-Petersburg) has been prepared for the release.
