The Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Marka” Publishing and Trading Centre under the Federal Communications Agency’s jurisdiction has prepared the following products to be issued:
November 1, the “75th Anniversary of the Sambo, a Universal Combat Sport” postage stamp to be issued
The word “sambo” is a Russian acronym meaning “self defense without a weapon”. This martial art originated in the USSR.
November 16, 1938, the USSR Physical Culture and Sports Committee issued a decree on “Developing a Freestyle Wrestling”. This date is considered the official birth date of this sport.
Sambo combines the best practices of the national martial arts: stand-up fighting, Russian, Georgian, Tatar, Azerbaijani, Kazakh, Uzbek wrestling as well as French-Finnish, American freestyle techniques, English wrestling of the Lancashire and Cumberland styles, Japanese judo and sumo etc.
The stamp has a picture of sambists with the corporate identity elements in the background specially designed for the Sambo 75th Anniversary.

November 1, three postal stamps «The ХХII Sochi Olympic Winter Games. Olympic Winter Sports» to be issued
The issue is dedicated to three winter sports: ice hockey, biathlon and curling.
The XXII Winter Olympics 2014 is going to become a true sports festival. Over 6000 sports men and team members of about 85 countries will be gathering in Sochi in 2014. Sports competitions within the framework of the Olympics will be held from 7 till 23 February 2014, 98 medal sets will be awarded.
Ice hockey is a team sport played on the ice; there are two teams playing. By passing a puck with sticks the skaters aim to shoot it into the opponent’s net and to protect their own net. The team who score more points wins the game.
Biathlon is a sport combining cross-country skiing and rifle shooting in several shooting rounds. At the moment the Winter Olympics programme includes five biathlon events for men and five events for women: individual, sprint, pursuit, mass start and relay. In addition there is a recent competition biathlon variant – mixed relay.
Curling is a team sporting game played at the ice rink. Two teams, each of four players, take turns sliding heavy granite stones (“rocks”) towards a circular target marked on the ice (“the house”).

November 1, a postcard with a commemorative stamp «225th Birth Anniversary of Mikhail S. Shchepkin (1788–1863), Actor and a Founding Father of the Russian Acting School» to be issued

Mikhail Semyonovich Shchepkin (1788–1863) is a famous Russian actor and a founder of realism in the Russian theatre art, a great reformer of Russia’s theatre stage.
M. Shchepkin’s ideas were inspired by his ideological and friendly ties with Russia’s leading public persons of the 19th century: Alexander Griboyedov, Nikolay Gogol, Alexander Pushkin, Ivan Turgenev, Alexander Suhovo-Kobylin and others. Shchepkin actively promoted play writing and strived for lifting censorship.
M. Shchepkin formulated a frame of reference for acting philosophy in his numerous statements, letters, memorials and conversations with students. Stage realism traditions that he established had a significant importance for the development of the Maly Theatre which became known as the “House of Shchepkin”. There is a theatre school at the Maly theatre named after M. Shchepkin.

November 8, four postage stamps to be issued in the “History of the Russian Uniform” series dedicated to the uniform coats of the Russian Ministry of Interior
On June 7, 1718 Emperor Peter the Great by his decree established The Chief Police Office in Saint Petersburg. A special uniform for police officers was introduced a year later. The armament included halberds, partisans, swords and fusils with bayonets.
Since then the police uniform has undergone a number of upgrade and innovations. The latest uniform for Russia’s police officers was presented in February 2012.
The postage stamps depict a Dragoon with a horse and a police officer (1718); a city policeman and a cavalry captain of the Separate Gendarmerie Corps (end of the 19th century); a traffic police woman and a militia sergeant major (1934), a senior lieutenant and a major general of the police (2012) with the cityscapes of different times on the background.

November 15, the «XXII Olympic Winter Games and XI Paralympic Games 2014 in Sochi. Sports Legends» souvenir sheet to be issued
The issue is dedicated to the world-famous Soviet Olympic champions. Their names form an integral part of the world history, the input they made into the national sport development and strengthening of the international relations was truly enormous. With each victory and record they enhanced our country prestige.
Yevgeniy R. Grishin (1931–2005) was a Soviet speedskater, Merited Master of Sport of the USSR, multiple champion and record-breaker of the USSR, all-around champion of Europe and the world, 1956 and 1960 Winter Olympic champion in the 500 meter and 1500 meter events. His best results were 39.6 of the 500 m and 2:08.2 of the 1500 m.
Lyudmila A. Pakhomova (1946–1986) was a Soviet ice dancer, Merited Master of Sport of the USSR, ballet mistress, multiple champion of the USSR, Europe and the world in figure skating. In 1970 together with Alexander G. Gorshkov they became the first Soviet figure skaters to win European and world championships. It was to a large extent thanks to their successful performance in European championships that ice dancing debuted as an official Olympic sport in 1976.
Vladimir M. Melanin (1933–1994) was a Soviet biathlete and a Merited Master of Sport of the USSR. He was the first Soviet biathlete to win an Olympic gold medal for the USSR in the 20 km individual in the 1964 Olympics in Innsbruck. Vladimir Melanin was known as the first officially recognized “King of Biathlon”.
Alexander P. Ragulin (1941–2004) was an ice hockey defenseman, Merited Master of Sport of the USSR, three-time Olympic champion and a ten-time world champion. He played for the USSR ice hockey teams “Khimik” and “CSKA” (Central Sports Club of the Army, Moscow). He had 427 games and scored 63 goals in the USSR championships. As a member of the national team he played 102 games and scored 14 goals in the world and European championships, and the Olympics. He was the best defenseman in the 1966 World Championship and a key player in the legendary 1972 Canada – USSR Series.
Anatoly V. Firsov (1941–2000) was a Soviet ice hockey defenseman, Merited Master of Sport of the USSR, three-time Olympic and eight-time world champion. He was a player in 474 games and scored 344 goals in the national championships; he scored 66 goals in 67 games in the world and European championships and the Olympics. On four occasions Anatoly Firsov was awarded the scoring title in the world and European championships.

Victor Dragunsky (1913–1972) was a novel and script writer. His best book is “Deniska’s Stories”. The 1960s saw his long-run books of the above series: “The Girl on a Sphere”, “The Enchanted Letter”, “The Childhood Friend”, “The Dognapper“, “Twenty Years Under the Bed”, “The Magic Power of Art” etc. In the 1970s he published “The Red Balloon in the Blue Sky”, “Multicolour Stories”, “The Adventure” etc.
There is a number of movies based on his books: “Funny Stories”, “The Girl on a Sphere”, “Deniska’s Stories”, “Magic Power”, “Nobody’s Secret”, “Amazing Adventures of Denis Korablyov”. Short motion pictures: “Who Ever Heard of Such a Thing?”, “The Captain”, “A Fire in the Annex Building”, “The Spyglass”, a short-length film “The Ivan Kozlovsky Glory” for the Yeralash children’s comedy TV show.
“Deniska’s Stories” collection brought the author enormous popularity. This is the book his name has been associated with.
The envelope has V. Dragunsky’s portrait and illustrations for his books “The Enchanted Letter”, “Deniska’s Stories” and “The Girl on a Sphere”.

November 30, six postage stamps «The XXII Olympic Winter Games 2014 in Sochi. Olympic Sports Venues» to be issued.
The issue is about the Olympic sports venues of the XXII Olympic Winter Games and XI Paralympic Winter Games 2014 in Sochi.
The Fisht Olympic Stadium is located in the Olympic Park so that the spectators have a magnificent view on both mountain peaks in the north and the sea in the south. The stadium capacity is 40,000 spectators. The opening and closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games will take place at the stadium. After the Olympics, the Fisht Olympic Stadium will be used as a venue for Russian national football team matches and as a training center. It will also be hosting mass entertainment events and shows.
The Bolshoy (“big”) Ice Dome is part of the ice hockey complex of the Olympic Park venues in Sochi. The Palace capacity is 12,000 spectators. In the course of the Games, the Ice Dome will be hosting competitions in ice hockey, and it will be used as a training rink.
The Shayba (“puck”) Arena is part of the ice hockey complex of venues in the Olympic Park in Sochi. The Arena capacity is 7,000 spectators. The venue will be hosting the Olympic ice hockey competitions and Paralympic ice sledge hockey competitions.
The Iceberg Skating Centre capacity is 12,000 spectators. The Palace will be hosting the Olympic competitions in figure skating and short-track skating.
The "RusSki Gorki" Jumping Center is located in the Esto-Sadok village on the northern slope of the Aibga Ridge. The facility location at the junction of two ridges has been selected by the international experts in order to make ski-jumping facilities harmonious with the surrounding landscape and to protect the athletes from side winds. The complex capacity is 7,500 spectators. Within the framework of the Games, the Center will be used for competitions in ski jumping and nordic combined. After the Winter Olympic Games, the RusSki Gorki Complex will become a national training center.
The "Laura" Cross-Country Ski & Biathlon Center is located on the crest and slopes of the Psekhako Ridge, within 6.5–10 km north-east of Krasnaya Polyana. The Center includes two separate stadiums, each with their own start and finish zones, two separate track systems for skiing and biathlon, a shooting range and warm-up zones. The Cross-Country Ski and Biathlon stadiums’ capacity is 9,600 spectators each.
