On October 19, a souvenir sheet “The 200th Anniversary of the Allied Armies’ Victory over Napoleon in the Battle of Leipzig” is issued

 


The Battle of Leipzig (Battle of the Nations) was on October 16-19, 1813. The largest battle in a raft of the Napoleonic wars in which Napoleon’s army was defeated by the Russian, Austrian, Prussian and Swedish allied troops.
 
Russian and Prussian troops who bore the brunt of the battle have played the main role to achieve full military success at Leipzig.
 
The souvenir sheet depicts a picture “Attack of the Leib Guard Cossacks near Leipzig on 4 October 1813” by K. Rechlin (1845) from the collection of the Novocherkassk Museum of Don Cossacks.
