Postage stamp "Happy New Year" is issued

Traditionally, FSUE PTC "Marka" issues a thematic stamp towards the New Year.
The New Year is a special holiday. It came to us from time immemorial, but it still remains the most vivid and long-awaited holiday. In Russia, the first Christmas tree appeared in the XIX century on roofs and fences of pubs - as decoration. Tradition of decorating a Christmas tree appeared in 1860-1870-s (following the European fashion), toys ordered from Europe were clearly divided into decorations for the wealthy and for those who are poorer. To purchase the toys made of glass for the inhabitants of Russia of the end of the XIX century was the same thing as to buy a car for the modern Russian citizen.

The first glass toy in the Soviet Union began to be made during the First World War in Klin.

In addition to glass, toys were made of cardboard, cotton wool wound on a wire frame; figures of children, angels, clowns, sailors were decorated this way. Fake fruits of papier-mache and velvet were hung on Christmas trees. Star of Bethlehem (six-pointed star, unlike the Soviet one) was fixed at the top of Christmas tree.
Postage stamp depicts a red Christmas ball with snowflakes against the gray background.
