The Cathedral was founded on 12 July 1893 on Stt. Peter and Paul’s day. The construction was funded by donations of the Russian community of Karlovy Vary. The Byzantium style cathedral follows the traditional pattern of the 17th century churches in the Moscow and Yaroslavl regions. The construction was supervised by architect D.V. Viderman who used as a guide a design by architect D.V. Ukhtomsky. The six bells, the Gospels, and church plate were brought over from Russia. The cathedral was consecrated in 1897, in the presence of the twelve priests who came from the twelve Russian embassies in Europe. The Cathedral is the town church of the Russian Orthodox Church in Karlovy Vary.
