Mikhail Matusovsky (1915-1990) was the poet, laureate of the State Prize of the USSR (1977).
He was born in Lugansk. After graduating from the Engineering college he started to work at a local factory. He began publishing in the regional newspapers and magazines in 1934. Mikhail graduated from the Maxim Gorky Literature Institute in 1939. During the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 he worked as a war correspondent for the front-line newspapers. In 1940 he was published his collection of poems "My family tree".

Mikhail Matusovsky true calling manifested itself in lyrics. He wrote lyrics for soundtracks of "True Friends", "Silence", "Test on Loyalty" films. The music was written by Isaak Dunayevsky, Veniamin Basner composers. Songs written for such his poems as "Moscow Nights", "What the Fatherland Starts With", "Ballad of a Soldier" and "Fly, Pigeons, Fly" became symbols of the country.

Poems and songs of the poet are deeply lyrical and melodic, as well as thematically serious.
