Alexander I (1777–1825) was a member of the House of Romanov and Emperor of Russia.

Upon assuming the throne, he repaired relations with Great Britain and restored the Russian mission to Vienna. He expanded the territory in the Middle East thanks to annexation od Georgia. Russia acquired a major part of Azerbaijan as a result of the 1804–1813 Russo-Persian War and Bessarabia as a result of the 1806–1812 Russo-Turkish War. The 1808–1809 Russo-Swedish War ended with a successful annexation of Finland.

The Patriotic War of 1812 ended with a total defeat of the Napoleonic Army and shift of hostilities to Europe. In 1813–1814, Alexander I took command of the Sixth Coalition and entered Paris on 31 March 1814.

The territory of the Russian Empire expanded significantly, and its western boarders were finally defined during the reign of Alexander I. He was called “the Blessed One” for all the reforms he introduced.
